From a Hidden Kite Paradise to Endless Hangtime Over the Mediterranean

An Unforgettable Journey Through Austria, Germany, Italy, and Greece

What started as a spontaneous road trip through Austria ended on a sailing adventure across the Greek Cyclades. In between: a broken-down van, a near-death experience while fishing, some crazy kite experiments – and the realization that the best adventures are the ones you can’t plan.

In my new vlog, I’ll take you along from the Alps to the Aegean – through rain, poisonous fish, wrench sessions, and pure joy for life.

An Underrated Kite Paradise: the “Noasidla See”

Even the drive to Lake Neusiedl (or as the locals lovingly call it, “Noasidla See”) was an experience in itself. Falling asleep in the dark and waking up to a postcard-perfect landscape – cowbells, morning mist, damp air, and silence. If you love mountains, your heart will skip a beat.

But I wasn’t there for sightseeing – I was there to shred. So off to Podersdorf!

My first time at Lake Neusiedl – and that iconic tree on the tip of the peninsula immediately caught my eye. I couldn’t help but picture Kevin Langeree jumping over it and Andrea Principi crashing into it.
The wind? Not exactly perfect – light one day, 20 knots the next – but surprisingly steady. And contrary to what you’d expect from an inland lake, it wasn’t gusty at all. Who would’ve thought the wind could be this clean so far from the ocean?

Between Boat Shows and Vanlife Repairs

Next stop: Lake Constance, where Interboot 2025 took place – originally a traditional boat show that has since evolved to include trend and fun sports like wing and pump foiling.

It was my second time being invited to showcase the fun side of foiling. Three daily pumpfoil shows on the demo lake, one wakefoil session right on Lake Constance, and hands-on workshops where visitors could try foiling themselves – five intense days full of energy and plenty of new experiences.

After the show, I was planning to relax for a few days – but as so often happens in vanlife, plans changed. Instead of sunny Sardinia, I got a good dose of mechanical work: installing lift blocks on the rear axle of my new Hymer camper. Improvisation is part of the game, right?

A Dangerous Catch

From there, it was finally off to Greece. After landing on Mykonos, probably the funniest taxi driver ever took us straight to the port, where we caught the ferry to Paros – the starting point of our Sail & Kite Safari.

Last year, we’d had 14 straight days of over 30 knots – pure dream conditions. This year? Rain, calm winds, and a bit of suspense. No wind? Fine – time to go fishing.

After losing our bait three times in a row, we decided to hunt down the culprit. A few minutes later, I tried to catch a rabbithead pufferfish with my bare hands – thinking it’d make for a great dinner. Luckily, our skipper Lukas stepped in just in time. The fish turned out to be one of the most poisonous in the world – only two milligrams of its toxin are enough to kill an adult.
Yeah… probably time to find a safer no-wind activity.

Flying High – Even Without Wind

Lukas then showed us a video of a kiter attached to the top of a boat mast, looping his kite continuously until he was literally hovering in midair. It looked insane – so of course we had to try it.

With just eight knots of base wind and a 9m Pace Pro, we went for it – double loops, weightless moments, flying behind the catamaran like we’d hacked gravity itself.
Safe to say: that little experiment totally saved the trip.

You can’t control the weather, but you can choose how you deal with it. We laughed, learned, and collected more unforgettable moments than we could count.

Curious?

From Austrian lakes to Greek islands, from van repairs to poisonous fish – this trip had it all.
And once again, it reminded me why I love being on the road.
